Rivers State: NPC Begins Enumeration Area Demarcation In Eleme

The National Population Commission NPC said that its second phase of the Enumeration Area Demarcation, EAD has commenced in the Eleme LGA, Rivers State. The exercise which began on the February 22nd, 2016 will end on March 13th, 2016.
Addressing newsmen in Port Harcourt on Monday, the Federal Commissioner representing the Commission in Rivers State, Rev. Wokoma D. C. Wokoma called on the Rivers people to cooperate with the demarcators during the exercise. He said that the population and housing census require a lot of preparation, adding that the EAD is the division of the country into smaller unit areas that can be conveniently covered by a pair of enumerators during the census period.
His word, “Every village, town, city or local government area will be divided into small unit areas that can be conveniently canvassed by two (2) enumerators during the census period”.
He noted that because of new technologies and methodologies applied the EAD will be done in three (3) phases. Rev. Wokoma pointed out that in the next EAD; every house in each EA will be numbered, saying that in December, 2014 at the Akoko-East in Ondo State, the pilot survey was successful. Rev. Wokoma said that the population and Housing census is a national project and cannot be abandoned to NPC, and solicited for the cooperation of Nigerians for the success of the exercise.
“We therefore employ the executive governors, the chairmen, the security operatives in the country, the youths and all well meaning Nigerians to cooperate with the demarcators to ensure complete, a accurate and hitch free demarcation exercise in Rivers State”. Rev. Wokoma said.
The federal commissioner averred that at the end of the demarcation of the Eleme LGA, the NPC will have the total list of all distinct localities in the LGA.
The Rivers State government representative at the briefing, Victor Orji said the government will give necessary support to actualize the success of the exercise. ###
