Re-run Polls: APC Plots Violence In Andoni LGA

Indications have emerged that the two top most political parties, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and All Progressives Congress, APC in the Andoni Local Government Area are swinging two separate ways after agreeing with the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on the peaceful disposition of the local government and orderly conduct of the polls scheduled for July 30th, 2016.

On Saturday the 16th day of July, 2016 the entire wards in the Andoni Local Government Area were full to capacity as the ruling PDP in the state launches their ward to ward campaigns appealing for votes from the electorate ahead of July 30th rerun polls.

In all the wards, speaker after speaker emphasized on the need for a peaceful co-existence and orderly conduct before, during and after the polls as well as stressed the importance of life after the elections, while warning against  snatching of ballot boxes and any other behaviour that may tarnish the image of the local government.

The PDP gyrates across the communities of Andoni were generally peaceful as the wards were seen in peaceful gathering and rally round the nooks and crannies of Andoni conversing for votes and peaceful disposition of the area.

In Agwut-Obolo town, headquarters of ward 3, the caretaker chairman, Hon. Engr. Ofiks Kagbang admonished the PDP supporters to sue for peace and orderliness throughout the voting period and tasked them to continuously plead with whoever that comes with any intrigues to disrupt the polls, on the need for peace.

According to the chairman, failures are always without good intentions but how to destroy and drag others into doing their biddings. He called on all voters to keep their Permanent Voters Cards (PVC) always with them to vote candidate of their choice, appealing to them to remain resolute as the state government would in no distant time extend her skills programmes to the LGA and wards in the state.

The Andoni council boss who also visited other wards in the local government equally emphasized on the need to ensure that the local government and communities are peaceful as government would not spare anyone caught fomenting trouble before, during and after the re-run elections.

Meanwhile, the leader of Andoni ward 3 and Commissioner in the Rivers State House of Assembly Service Commission, Hon. Paul Ayagwung has called on the electorate and PDP supporters in the ward to come out in their large numbers on Saturday 30th July, 2016 to vote for candidates of the PDP for the state and federal constituencies noting that PDP government in the state will put smiles on the faces of everyone irrespective of the current hardship facing Nigerians.

Represented at the ward meeting and rally by Hon. Jacob Eneotu, Esq. the Commissioner admonished all to have faith in the PDP and vote for Rt. Hon. Ikunyi-Owaji Ibani for State Assembly, Hon. Awaji-inombeek Dagomie Abiante for House of Representatives and Senator Olaka Nwogu for Senate.

However, The Newswriter political correspondent gathered that the efforts of the PDP to sustain the peace in that local government area is said to suffer little opposition as the APC counterparts are allegedly sabotaging the peace efforts when it party strategies its aimed at truncating the elections.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, a prominent youth leader of the APC in the area told The Newswriter that the election would not hold as schedule because if allowed to hold, they the APC would not win, hence their plot to disrupt the election.

In a similar contribution, some repentant cultists in the area have under anonymity revealed how some APC chieftains are wooing them with money to disrupt the election and inflict injuries on PDP chieftains as well as making the communities uninhabitable.

The Newswriter gathered that while the PDP are seriously sensitizing the electorate and their members, the APC is seemingly not concerned about the elections.

Those who have chosen to remain anonymous are however calling on the chairman of the Council and Security agencies to work harder to ensure that the coming election in the area is peaceful and orderly. ###
