Veteran grassroots coach, coach Nana Ben Peters revealed to this weekly sports desk how he discovered former Nigerian Super Eagles vice captain and winger, Finidi George.
Speaking to the Sports Editor of The Newswriter, the veteran coach who was received by the Rivers State Commissioner for Sports, Hon. Fred Igwe, in his office for winning the South South Ambassadors Football Cup, donated by Obinna Nsofor, Nigeria Super Eagles forward, gladly intimated that he saw Finidi George playing among some of his playmates at Bundu where he was residing with his elder brother coach Peters. He said seeing the former vice captain of the national football team, he called him and put him under his tutelage and later introduced him to play in Agip football club ofPort Harcourt.
Coach Peters also confirmed to The Newswriter Sports desk that Agip was Finidi George’s first place of receiving salary as an upcoming professional footballer in his life. Thereafter, the retired one time Fifa best right winger in the universe, blossomed to become a great professional football.
According to coach Nana Ben Peters, Finidi, like a diamond, shinning from that first opportunity he gave him, got his breakthrough to the international scene.
On the star’s character, the amiable coach pointed out that Finidi is a gentle soul that every interesting human being would love to be with, apart from being a super hero. He said the amazing winger never showed any trait of great manly attitude. Those who know him enjoy relating with him and he is a young man that appreciates good done to him by his mentors.
