18th NSF: Golf Dropped, R/S Golf Association Chairman Reacts

The chairman of Rivers State Amateur Golf Association, King D.G. Bob-Manuel, has reacted to the dropping of golf event as a sport to be competed for in the forthcoming 18th national sports festival in Lagos.
The astute golfer who had seen many good days with the game said, the dropping of golf in the 18th National Sports Festival will affect Rivers State, stating that golf was one of the strong points in Rivers gold medal table.
The royal father, golfer, further pointed out that the Nigeria Golf Federation should have made their input as to include the sport in the list of sports that would be competed for, as it was done in the 17th National Sports Festival in Port Harcourt, where Rivers State won her over all in the sport.
He further appealed to the Nigeria Golf Federation to make a strong case to the Lagos State sports organizing local committee to include the sport in the list of sports that should be competed for as it had already been competed at the 17th edition here in Port Harcourt.
As it is, no one is sure whether Rivers golfers will be in the party to contest the 18th national sports festival due to this down turn development.
However, Rivers golfers are more than ready to defend the gold medal they won if the sport is considered as one of the game that would be contested for in the 18th edition, come November 2012, in Lagos State.
