Amaechi Establish 10,000 Hecter Agricutural Farm Project In Oyigbo…As Model Secondary School Will Soon Open

Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has said his administration is ready to establish an agricultural farm project on 10,000 hectare of land in Oyigbo Local Government Area of the State, if the council and the people of the area provide the land.  This will boost food production in the State and create employment for the people of Oyigbo.

Governor Amaechi also disclosed that the model secondary school in Oyigbo being built by his administration will be ready for academic activities later this year.

The governor spoke during a Town Hall Meeting with the people of Oyigbo Local Government Area in the Oyigbo Council Headquarters, Afam on Wednesday.

“I want Oyigbo people to give me 10,000 hectares of land and I will give you an agricultural project that will employ people here.  The first step to solving economic crisis especially, crime is to provide people with a source of livelihood. So you need to provide for them a source of livelihood and for unskilled labour that is those who did not go to school  they constitute the highest number, the easiest way to engage them is to look at the area of agriculture.”

Governor Amaechi spoke on the things and projects his administration is doing and has done in Oyigbo. “I heard the Chairman say we should complete the secondary school. By September this year, just like we have opened Eleme Secondary School we should open the secondary school in Oyigbo.  it is just the hostels and the staff quarters that we need to finish work on”.

He also assured the people of steady light in the coming days. “You know we are working on power in Port Harcourt, one assurance I will give you is that I will direct them to come to Oyigbo and find out why you do not have light.  We are working on that, again give us one month, you know I am not a specialist in power, they are working in Port Harcourt, I will pull some of them out to come and see why you do not have light in Oyigbo and give you light”.

Amaechi said his administration has constructed some internal roads in Oyigbo Local Government Area.  He named such roads to include Anambra Street, Ijeoma Andy Street, Oga Imo Street, Obuchi road among other internal roads where work is ongoing.

Among the completed model primary schools in Oyigbo, the governor named them to include Community Primary School, Obeakpu, Community Primary School, Egburu, Community Primary School, Ayama, Community Primary School, Oyigbo North, Primary School, Oyigbo, Community Primary School, Obeama, State School, Oyigbo West, State School, Okpontu, amongst others; with two recently in AjuoNdoki and Okoloba.

He also promised to build one model primary healthcare centre in Afam to provide healthcare services for the people there.

The governor said education at the primary and secondary school level is free and gave instruction for suspension of school principals found to have collected any form of fees from pupils and students.

As an interactive forum, those who came forward to ask questions equally praised Governor Amaechi for his people-oriented projects in the state.

Earlier, the Chairman of Oyigbo Local Government Area, Hon. Prince Uche Felix Nwaeke in his welcome address noted that Governor Amaechi’s administrative policies have had positive impact on all Rivers people.

He said, “Your Excellency, on behalf of the Traditional Rulers, Elders, Women, Youth, Stakeholders and the good people of Oyigbo Local Government Area I heartily welcome you and your entourage to this very important Town Hall Meeting. You have positively impacted the lives of Rivers people, including Oyigbo Local Government Area.  Our people are therefore resolute in identifying with your giant strides and offer to continue lending their support and commitment to your efforts towards the enthronement of true democracy and the development of basic infrastructures needed for the emergence of a greater Rivers State.  Your programmes and projects are significant and monumental.

“That you were the Chairman of the Speakers’ Forum and now the Chairman of the Governors’ Forum in Nigeria is testimonial and a confirmation of your outstanding leadership qualities hinged on direct approach to issues and an unfeigned disposition to the enthronement of the best.  We are proud and happy to associate with you Sir”.

Nwaeke also listed some of his achievements in Oyigbo Local Government Area. ###
