The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Rivers State Council, Comrd. Paul Bazia has stated it loud and clear that everybody in active service today will one day retire and automatically become a senior citizen, hence the need to cherish and appreciate the senior citizens.

Comrd Bazia stated this, Tuesday, when he led the State NUJ Executives to receive, in audience, members of the Rivers State Senior Citizens Forum at the Press Centre, Moscow Road, Port Harcourt, who came on a courtesy visit.

The Chairman commended the Senior Citizens for coming together to drive their cause, a feat, he said remains remarkable.

“It is a step in the right direction for Senior Citizens to have come together to form a Forum to drive your cause.

“I assure you that NUJ under my watch will sustain her relationship with your Group.

We will continue to identify with the Forum, “Bazia assured.

He told the Forum to feel free to use the NUJ Facility free of charge for their activities.

The Chairman also informed the visitors that NUJ had before now made all its  veterans life members of the Union.

He thanked the guests for coming.

Earlier in her speech, the President of the Rivers State Senior Citizens Forum, Queen Tenalo Georgiana said they were at the Press Centre to renew the age-long relationship that exists between them and NUJ, bearing in mind that someday the current executive members of the NUJ will become Senior Citizens and qualify as the Forum members.

She said the essence of the Forum is to rally their members towards giving value to their lives as senior citizens.

She added that by this visit, the Forum intends  to partner with NUJ in all its activities, henceforth.

The Forum President used the opportunity to intimate and invite the NUJ  to her forthcoming programme, which she said will feature sanitation, happy hour and of course thanksgiving service.

Adding his voice, the former Chairman of NUJ in the State, Elder Omoni Ayo-Tamuno said as an insider, he deemed it necessary to bring members of the Rivers State Senior Citizens Forum on a courtesy visit to his primary constituency, which is the NUJ.

He thanked the NUJ Executive led by Comrd Paul Bazia for receiving them despite the short notice.***
