FAMILY TREE CHRISTIAN MINISTRY CELEBRATES INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE GIRL CHILD 2025

The Family Tree Christian Ministry (FTCM) has marked its International Day of the Girl Child 2025 with a celebration in two locations: Oginigba, Port Harcourt, and Claretian University of Nigeria, Nekede, Owerri.

The event, themed “The Girl I Am, The Change I Lead; Girls on the Frontline of Crisis,” united over 500 girls, students, and educators for a day of inspiration, creativity, and empowerment.

The celebration featured a range of activities, including spelling bees, spoken word presentations, dance performances, skill acquisition sessions, and insightful motivational talks from seasoned speakers and mentors.

Practical sessions were conducted, including the manufacture of air fresheners in Port Harcourt and the production of Vaseline in Owerri, both instructed by Pastor Mrs Esther Ugochukwu.

Ambassador Adiele-Uba Stellamaris, convener and founder of Family Tree Christian Ministry, emphasised the importance of investing in girls. “The girl child is not a biological accident nor a mistake; she is a miracle. When you invest in a girl, you invest in a generation,” she said.

Pastor Mandy Nwachukwu, in her presentation on “Avoiding Toxic Friendship and Peer Pressure as a Girl Child,” encouraged the girls to be mindful of their associations. “The company you keep can either build you up or pull you down. Choose wisely,” she advised.

Dr. Mrs. Eno Ajuogu, in her talk on “The Dangers of Teenage Pregnancy,” highlighted the devastating consequences of teenage pregnancy. “Teenage pregnancy can derail your dreams and limit your potential. Stay focused and committed to your goals,” she cautioned.

The Imo State Teen Queen, Princess Victory Egegamuka, also graced the event, encouraging participants to embrace confidence, purpose, and leadership. “You are the leaders of today and tomorrow. Believe in yourself and your abilities,” she said.

In a heartwarming gesture, every girl child in attendance received a special gift package, which included a pad, an exercise book, a pen, and a textbook. These gifts were aimed at supporting their educational development and encouraging them to reach their full potential.

The event also recognised individuals who have made outstanding contributions to community development. The awardees included Engr. Chikaodi Ebelike, Chief Ngere Franklin, Dr. Mrs. Eno Ajuogu, and Nze Ugochukwu Opara (Ugochinyere 2 of Nekede Ancient Kingdom), among others.

The ministry’s celebration of the International Day of the Girl Child serves as a reminder of the importance of empowering girls and promoting their rights. As Ambassador Stellamaris emphasised, “Let’s raise girls who lead with purpose and become solutions in times of crisis.” The event concluded with a renewed commitment to supporting girls and empowering them to become leaders in their communities.
