Captain Eddy Ends Ph 20th Golf Amateur Open Championship Successfully, As Ideriah Wins

Twenty one-year-old Solomon Ideriah of Port Harcourt Sealords Golf Club 1928 has won the three days championship, the 20th Port Harcourt Amateur open Golf championship, with a total net of 144 gross, beating other heavy heights to claim the major trophy.

In addition to a juicy shopping prize amount of N30,000 spreading to cover one year by Park and Shop, one  of the sponsors of the event.

Solomon Ideriah, the winner of the championship is playing handicap 3 at the moment and has won some interesting prize of high profile.

He was the NDDC discovered Tiger woods of the future, in the commission organized Tiger Woods Talent Hunt championship last year in Niger Delta States.

Speaking to sports journalists shortly after he was presented his trophy, he said he wants to  play international golf so as to be acknowledged  as one of the most talented golfer that has ruled the world in the game.

The organizing committee chairman of the championship, Abiye Amakiri, thanked all that joined in making the championship successfully and stated that without the cooperation of all and sundry it would have been difficult to record the success so far recorded.

He also thanked the club for finding him worthy to have entrusted such a responsibility on him and pledged to keep up the confidence the club has given him, as he is ready to shoulder further responsibilities that may be entrusted to him in the future.

Captain Unuekhai Eddy, the captain of the club, said he is excited to host the rest of the golfers in the federation not to talk of extending the hospitality to other golfers that participated in the championship.

According to him, more championship will be played before the year runs out. He used the championship closing ceremony to thank the sports Commissioner for the state Hon. Fred Igwe for promptly honouring the club’s call and also the organizing committee for making him proud in organizing the championship to its successful end.

The president ofPort Harcourtclub, Barrister Golden Tamuno is booming with the successful championship because his administration is more focused on how to get the club busy in all sections.

The resultant effect is what is being noticed and acknowledged, in perfection  of his administration ideas.

He stated further that more exciting programmes are still on the way to be practically executed to bring members together in happy union, adding that every section is as good as the other as all members are contributors to the success story of the club.

He said prizes were won in all categories, the friends of the club are not left out as all categories of sponsors too were presented gifts of interest.

Oyibo Emuobor, also won in this category, second place as a sponsor.

Hon. Fred Igwe and Governor Amaechi were both presented a gift. The golf club section decided to lure the new commissioner for sports, Hon Fred Igwe, who is a footballer into playing golf, hence he was presented a certificate of membership of the section.

 

All participants went home with one prize or the other in happiness, as the championship came to an end same day.

Meanwhile, the ladies golfers will take to the golf course come 4th -6th November, 2011 in a ladies amateur open golf championship. ###
