The Civil Society Organization in Port Harcourt has concluded measures to prevent financial malpractices by the 3 tiers of government come 2014 and beyond.
The organization unveiled these steps to be taken while briefing newsmen in Port Harcourt.
According to the organization, the attention of the public has been drawn to the issue of long lasting misdemeanor in public finance management, which they alleged has held back development, violated the fiscal laws and led to leakages of public resources.
The organization which gave solutions to the ballooning of the recurrent expenditure budget of the National Assembly from less than N60 billion in 1999 to N150 billion against public interest said, the legislatures should restrict themselves to law making and should bring the budget down to a more reasonable size of N25 billion.
It maintained that legislators should restrict themselves to law making and those facing serious crime allegations must be placed on suspension.
The society stressed that the Freedom of Information Act must commence immediately at all tiers of government and that the Accountant General at all levels of government must expose all shades of financial malpractices or be prosecuted because they are accomplice.
They said, the impunity of high profile administrative rule, capital projects by the executive and legislative arms of government must be curtailed by checkmating the executive excesses. ####
