May 16 of every year is set aside by the Ijaws in remembrance of their great hero, who died years ago for the liberation of the Ijaws and died in the process.
Mayor Jasper Isaac Adaka Boro hailed from Kaiama, in Bayelsa State and joined the Nigeria Army and rose to the rank of major. When the Nigerian civil war broke out he used his position to stand for the Ijaws.
For this noble feature of defending his blood, he was revered and declared as the hero of the Ijaws, and the day was set aside for all Ijaw speaking ethnic group to celebrate in his memory as a special day.
Our reporter who stumbled on some youths in buses at the Isaac Boro Park, spoke with some of them. They responded by saying “today being 16th May is the day our hero Isaac Boro died for the Ijaw nation. So we are all going to Yenagoa, his own state to celebrate his remembrance day.
