Win More Goals, Team Rivers Urged

Governor Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi has urged Team Rivers to come home with more gold medals after the 18th National Sports Festival tagged EKO 2012 in Lagos.
The Governor who was represented by the Deputy Governor Engr. Tele Ikuru made the call while briefing pressmen ahead of the teams departure for Lagos for the Festival.
Rt Hon. Amaechi advised the athletes to be disciplined in the their conduct and be physically, mentally and spiritually focused to achieve their aim at the competition, adding ”all you will need to make you comfortable in camp will be provided, the only thing is to make yourself and Rivers State proud by bringing home several gold medals with a large convincing gap”.
He thanked the Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt Prof Joseph Ajienka for hosting and providing an enabling environment to prepare the athletes for the challenge.
Speaking earlier, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, Prof. Joseph Ajienka thanked the Rivers State government for partnering with the University as the centre of excellence in Sports.
According to him ”you now have the platform to become the best. We are very confident that we will go and remain victorious, as defending champions, and by the grace of God we will continue to maintain our pride of place, as a State of excellence in Sports.”
In his vote of thanks, the Director of Sports for Team Rivers, Mr. Daobu Harvest Harry praised the Rivers State government for assisting the team by providing welfare for coaches, athletes and officials.
He expressed gratitude to the management of the University of Port Harcourt for allowing the athletes use the University’s facilities.
Responding on behalf of the athletes, Miss Mimi Ibiba Siri, a badminton player appreciated Rivers State Government for its support and contributions towards their welfare throughout the camping period.
‘We are assuring Rivers State that we will deliver and not let you down, we are going with our spirit high to bring home more gold medals, more than we got last year,” she said.
