Speakership: Group Condemns Court For Restraining

A frontline political pressure group, Niger Delta Democratic Movement (NDDM) has condemned the recent Ahoada Court interim injunction restraining the authentic Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Evans Bapakaye Bipi from parading himself as the Speaker.

The group in a statement signed by its National Chairman, Dr. Samuel Wilberforce Odum said Rt. Hon. Bipi remains the authentic Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, describing the Court injunction as a” kangaroo” affair.

It said the action of the Court could further heightened the on-going political imbroglio in the State, saying that the interlocutory injunction is rubbish, null and void, “because it was predicated out of malice without due process”.

The statement said the Court did not follow rule of law, and that Justice C.N Wall’s grant of interim injunction restraining the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Bipi from resuming his legislative functions is capable of truncating the resumption of activities at the Assembly.

The group also lambasted the former Head of State, Olusegun Obasanjo over his utterances against President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, adding that the Federal Government should hold him responsible to provide evidence to substantiate his claims or be prosecuted for false alarm, which is capable of creating crisis in the country.

They said it is unfortunate and disappointing for a former President to have opened his mouth wide and utter such allegations, knowing fully well, that he has a skeleton in his cupboard during his tenure as President of Nigeria, adding that he should not use personal aggrandizement to tarnish the image of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan who had been sanitizing the already bastardized Government by former leaders.

The group advised Obasanjo to respect his old age rather than making statements that are capable of causing confusion in the country, stressing that he should rather encourage President Jonathan for doing a good job for Nigeria.

It also described the call by APC to impeach President Jonathan as a joke of the moment, saying that National Assembly had credible records for the President as he was making concerted efforts to take the nation to greater heights as” Rome was not build in a day”.
